The Women of Easter, Welcome and Introduction

Welcome to Day One of our Easter book study, The Women of Easter, by Liz Curtis Higgs. Over the next four weeks, we will explore the greatest story ever told through the distinct viewpoints of three women who were there, and whose lives were forever changed. We will relate to one or all of these Mary’s from Scripture and experience on a personal level the life-transforming power of the resurrection story fresh and new in our own lives.

How many Passion plays or Easter programs have we attended throughout our lives? How many times have we sat through the old familiar Sunday School lessons about the life, the teachings, the miracles, the death and suffering, and the resurrection and ascension of Jesus? Yet, this story never grows old!

That is because this is our redemption story. We were hopelessly lost in our sin and desperately in need of a Savior. Jesus willingly laid down His life for us and purchased our freedom with His blood. He alone was worthy to pay the price and secure the victory on our behalf. Because of His resurrection, we are victorious over sin and death, and we have the promise of eternal life with Him!

There has never been a greater reason to celebrate in the entire world! That is why this particular Bible study is going to be especially meaningful and impactful to us over the course of this next month. What brings it up yet another notch is that we will relive this message from a brand-new perspective, that is through the eyes of three women with whom we can relate on a personal level.

Let us open our hearts to receive this familiar story through a fresh outlook, and allow it to penetrate our hearts as if it were the first time. May this study impact your celebration of Easter this season in the most exciting and meaningful way possible!

Introduction Questions for Small Groups

Here is a sneak peak of our discussions for this week!

QUESTION 1: What are some of your earliest memories of celebrating Easter as a child?

QUESTION 2: What are some of the most meaningful ways to celebrate the Easter season to you now as an adult?

QUESTION 3: This week, we will be reading about the lives of Mary and Martha, and their ever-famous story of surviving Superwoman syndrome and learning to prioritize time to sit at Jesus’ feet. Have you ever struggled with trying to be Superwoman? How did that turn out?

QUESTION 4: What does it mean for you to sit at Jesus’ feet? Describe what your life is like when you make this a priority.

QUESTION 5: If you are new to online Bible study, do you have any questions we can answer for you? Or, if you have done this before, what is some advice you can give to new members?

We have found that to successfully keep up with Bible study, it is important to have a structured, yet flexible plan. Choose a time and place, and strive to be consistent. However, allow for flexibility and don’t let a bad day derail your plan. We all get behind at times. The key is to jump back on before you get too far behind or discouraged. If you ever need support, please let one of us know.

QUESTION 6: When and where do you plan to do your Bible/book study?

I am praying that you have an awesome week of Bible study! I hope to see you in one of our small groups this week!

God bless!
